ABOUT US
Trained as a classical painter in New York and France, Tamara Codor went on to receive a formal degree in set design for theater. She started her career as a studio artist and decorative painter, but her love of design led her to co-found the company Codor Design, an internationally recognized luxury furniture company.
For 10 years Codor Design developed and hand-built furniture for A-List clients and designers around the world. This allowed Tamara to expand into new materials, bringing Codor Design to where it is today, with a focus on Plaster Obscura Lighting, Objet Trouvé Mirrors, and one-off art pieces.
Drawing on the architectural capabilities of plaster and the dramatic nature of lighting, Codor Design is continually pushing the shapes and sizes of its pieces to create iconic structures with unexpected pockets of light and shadow. Plaster Obscura refers to the play of light on the plaster's surface. Even the largest pieces maintain a feeling of peaceful weightlessness as cast light wraps around their quiet surfaces.
The Objet Trouvé Mirrors are a wildly creative take on objects-as-story-telling. Pairing the tradition of ornate rococo gilt mirrors with the Dadaist art practice of found-object art, Tamara Codor began assembling, casting, and plastering objects. As she worked, themes of mythology and folktales began to emerge. Inspired by Lewis Carroll's poems and Greek mythological tales, her unique take on whimsy and fantasy took shape. Over time, Codor has created highly personalized mirrors based on client's zodiac signs, culturally significant stories, and family histories.
Each Plaster Works piece is meticulously hand-built and cast in their Seattle studio, offering endless opportunities for customization. CODOR DESIGN is committed to pushing the boundaries of creativity and continually evolving the art of design.
INTERIOR DESIGN STUDIO
Tamara’s varied background also informs the way she approaches interior design. She has extensive experience with materials and an understanding of building fundamentals which makes for fluid interaction with contractors and artisans alike.
Tamara believes the composition of one’s surroundings is approached like a living painting. Color, textures, furniture, and art should look balanced and interesting from every perspective as one walks through their environment. Each new project is a challenge to marry unique and elegant design with the client's lifestyle and use of space.
CODOR DESIGN specializes in creating interiors that span the scope of our client’s needs. From primary residences and vacation homes to private yachts and jets, we elevate all aspects of our client's environment.
